John Albert Cox, 85 of Bedford, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011 at his residence. He was born on Wednesday, June 30, 1926 in Bedford County, a son of the late Clarence Albert Cox and Flora Bell Dinkle Cox. He was retired from Bedford County Public Schools and was a member of Quaker Baptist Church. Surviving is his wife, Helene Goggin Cox; a son, Jeffrey Albert Cox & wife, Dawn of Bedford; a granddaughter, Katelyn Cox of Radford; a grandson, Justin Cox of Bedford; a brother, Malcolm R. Cox of Bedford; two sisters, Gaynelle Tuck, Jackie Woolwine, both of Moneta as well as a special friend, Tony Maxfield. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 26, 2011 at 11:00 am at Quaker Baptist Church with Rev. David Timma officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call Saturday, December 24, 2011 after 11 AM and the family will receive friends from 2 until 4 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
