Mahlon Lee Mayhew, 81 of Bedford, passed away Monday, December 20, 2021 at his residence. He was born on Saturday, November 2, 1940 in Bedford County, a son of the late Moulton Andrew Mayhew and Jessie Mae Overstreet Mayhew.
He was a retired Major with the Virginia Department of Corrections.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Ann Ayers Mayhew; his sons, Richard L. Mayhew, Michael Shane Mayhew; his grandchildren, Ryan L. Mayhew, Lauren M. Setchel, William D. Mayhew, Lexi D. Adkins; his great-grandchildren, Carter Michael Setchel, Holly Adkins; his sisters, Nancy Walker, Mary Hodges, Iva Martin, Annie Mae Brock; his brothers, Ray Mayhew, Douglas Mayhew.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in Patmos United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
