Obituary of Theresa Gand

Theresa Gand, of Salisbury, NC and formally of Bedford VA, died on Tuesday, January 1^st 2019 at the age of 89 years.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Rudolph Gand and their daughter, Joan Gand.

Mrs. Gand is survived by her daughters, Julie Linhart (Randolph), and Laura Covill; her grandchildren, Anna Dickenson (Josh), Rachel Linhart, Randolph Linhart III, Paul Covill (Bridget) and Alex Covill (Virginia).; and 6 great-grandchildren, Danial and Jacob Dickenson and Hunter, Kinley, Jackson, and Bennett Covill.  She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Schmidt and brother, Otto Schmitt.

Mrs. Gand was born and raised in Bronx, New York and graduated from Cathedral High School.  She subsequently worked as a secretary in New York City for 7 years. She married Mr. Gand and moved to Norwood, New Jersey in 1955 and lived there till soon after retirement in 1990.  During that time, Mr. and Mrs. Gand raised 3 girls and Mrs. Gand returned to work as an administrative assistant in the area school system.  After retirement, they moved to Bedford, Virginia and lived there for over 20 years.  Three years ago Mrs. Gand moved to Salisbury, North Carolina to be closer to family.

Mrs. Gand enjoyed her family and was an avid reader.  She enjoyed baking, theater, the needle arts, and her daily walks and exercise. 

The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford and a funeral service will follow at 2 PM at in the chapel.  Interment will follow in  Virginia Memorial Park.
